Brest: Dzianis Pradun Fined for Participation in Flash-mob in Support of Political Prisoners
On 16 October in Brest youth activists carried out a flash-mob to express their support to political prisoners. The police detained 14 persons at it.
On 11 December the judge of Brest Maskouski borough court Ruslana Sianko ruled to fine one of them, Dzianis Pradun, 620 000 rubles (about $300) for it. A policeman took Pradun away from classes, made him write an explanatory note and composed a violation report.
Other action participants, Mikhail Iliin and Iuliia Pashko, are also pressurized by the authorities. They already solicited for their cases to be considered by administrative commissions on affairs of minors.
‘The authorities are trying to intimidate youth, the most active part of our society. The last case is even sadder because it coincides with 10 December, the Universal Day of Human Rights. The organizers of this persecution don’t realize that by their actions they demonstrate disrespect to human rights and the international undertakings that have been signed by the Republic of Belarus,’ commented the human rights activist Uladzimir Vialichkin.
