Over 140 Students of Belarusian State Pedagogic University Sign for Rehabilitation of Fired Lector
More than 140 signatures of second-year students of the historical faculty of Belarusian State Pedagogic University have been attached to the court case concerning rehabilitation of the BSPU lector Iury Bachyshcha at work. The students signed the statement despite the pressurization of the university administration – the dean’s office informed them five of the signers will be arbitrary expelled from the university.
At present the case is being considered by Minsk Maskouski borough court. Mr Bachyshcha was fired after the presidential election in which he participated as an independent observer. The administration of the department and the faculty he worked at proposed him to resign on his own will. He refused to do it and they fired him ‘for immoral deed’. However, he wasn’t informed what deed. Iury Bachyshcha is convinced he has been fired for political views and public activity. That’s why he sued the university administration, asking the court for rehabilitation. In response the university administration accused him of distributing among students materials that insult the president’s honor and dignity. A disc with cartoons that feature heroes resembling Aliaksandr Lukashenka was passed to court. However, the prosecutor’s office didn’t manage to find any relation of Iury Bachyshcha to this disc.
Former students of Iury Bachyshcha also composed a collective statement to the BDPU rector Uladzimir Kukharchyk to inform him that the teacher has never done what he was accused in and had always demonstrated a high professional and scientific level in his work.
