Student Expelled from Horki Academy and Denied Registration as Candidate

Alexander Strachuk, former student of the Belarusian State Academy of Agriculture was denied registration as a candidate to Horki district council. The formal reason for denial was alleged inaccuracy of the data sent by Strachuk to the election commission in late October, during registration of his initiative group.

Alexander and member of his initiative group Dzianis Sarokin were expelled only on November 28, when the Academy’s administration learned about his nomination. Alexander immediately filed a complaint to the election commission informing about undesired change of his status of a student and demanded to take measures in order to stop persecution of active students. However, the election commission ignored his complaint. They say, Alexander is not a student although in the documents filed in October he claimed he was a student. Thus, he was denied registration because the data in the documents were inaccurate.

In general, members of Horki United Democratic Forces nominated 8 candidates. Four candidates were registered, three of them – in important districts, reports the press-service of the Assembly of NGOs.
