Homel Region: Democratic Leaders Ask Regional Prosecutor’s Office to Check Legality of KGB Actions

On 3 February the chair of Homel regional organization of the United Civil Party Uladzimir Paliakou, the regional leader of For Freedom! Movement Uladzimir Katsora and coordinator of For Freedom! Movement Viktar Karneienka applied to Homel regional prosecutor’s office with the request to check the legality of the actions of the local KGB office.

According to the information given to BelaPAN by V.Paliakou, youth activists apply to representatives of democratic forces of Mahiliou saying that KGB workers pressurize them into giving false testimonies against leaders of oppositional parties. Students of local higher educational establishments sign different documents that can be later used against democratic activists.

According to V.Paliakou, KGB, with the use of blackmail, made a member of the United Civil Party Uladz Mikhailau collaborate with them and give false testimonies against the UCP leaders. ‘As a result of KGB pressurization Mikhailau had to go to Poland where he confessed collaboration with secret services. KGB also pressurized Iauhen Kazlou and Andrei Tolchyn. We ask the prosecutor’s office to check-up the mentioned facts and give us an answer in term specified by the law,’ commented V.Paliakou.
