Mahiliou: Human Rights Activists Start Monitoring Trials
According to Radio Racyja
The chair of Mahiliou human rights center Uladzimir Krauchanka filed a letter with the chair of Mahiliou Regional Court to inform him that the human rights activists of Mahiliou started monitoring the work of courts that would last for one year. In this letter he also expressed his hope that this initiative will find support and understanding among the officials of Mahiliou Regional Court.
The previous monitoring showed the most widespread violations in Mahiliou courts. These are: grounded lateness to the court hearings; violations of privacy of the court room, where verdicts are issued; open support of one of the sides of the trial by the judge.
The human rights activists of Mahiliou believe that the monitoring of trials will foster a real competition of the sides during court sittings and publicity of work of courts during open trials.
