Authorities Are Going to Replace Catholic Church and Monastery with Hotel, Swimming Pool and Tennis-court

A Minsk culture scientist Siarhei Hareuski obtained a document sealed by Minsk city executive committee, where it was described how a Catholic Church and a monastery will be reconstructed to a hotel with swimming pool and tennis-court.

‘This ensemble is the most valuable monument of the old Minsk. It was built in the XVIIth century. All its parts have survived till today. According to the new project new buildings will be built. They will be higher than the present ones. The construction of a swimming pool in the monastery will cause irreparable damage,’ Hareuski commented.

The works have already started. The state institutions that have been situated in the buildings are moving to new offices. By the way, several weeks ago the believers again applied to the authorities with the request to return St. Joseph church to them. The authorities refused and explained that they had no place to which an archive could be moved.
