Mahilou: Krystsina Shatsikava Kept in Mental Hospital against Her Will

The hospital doctor on duty Alena Bat said, Krystsina was not allowed meetings with her family. The fate of the patient will be decided by her doctor tomorrow morning, reports RFE/RL.

Krystsina’s mother Sviatlana found out about her daughter’s disappearance from a stranger, who called her and introduced himself as a representative of OSCE. Later she received another phone call. Sviatlana Shatsikava says:

“They called me and said my daughter was in a madhouse, department #12. I came there in the morning. In the beginning they welcomed me in a warm way. I asked them to call for a doctor on duty or the head of the department. I wanted to explain that I just needed to see if Krystsina was alive, and if she was alright. When they heard the name “Krystsina Shatsikava”, they made angry faces and sent me to the reception room. There I found a woman who said she was just a nurse on duty and would not look for anybody”.

When Krystsina’s mother brought a reporter to the hospital reception room, the doctor on duty appeared and confirmed that Krystsina was there.

Civic activist Iryna Kacharova, who was at the site when people in civil clothes pushed Krystsina into a car, also met with the doctor on duty.

Iryna Kacharova says:

“Doctor on duty Alena Bat came. I told her I was a witness of kidnapping and reported the incident to the prosecutor’s office. I told her I had the right to learn about her case. The doctor responded that she gave all the information to Krystsina’s mother. When I was leaving, Ms. Bat said if we didn’t do any stupid things, everything would be ok the next day”

On Friday evening strangers pushed Krystsina into a red Niva car. No one knew about Krystsina’s whereabouts until Saturday night.

Seventy years ago, in 1937, Zmitser Zhylunovih was tormented to death in the walls of Mahilou madhouse.
