College Board of Minsk City Court Turns up Verdict to Kanstantsin Lukashou
According to BelaPAN
On 3 April the college board of Minsk city court turned up the verdict of Minsk Leninski borough court of 20 February 2007, by which Kanstantsin Lukashou was sentenced to 2 years of conditional imprisonment with 2-year probation period.
Lukashou’s brother, well-known politician Viachaslau Siuchyk, said: ‘The decision of the college board on the cassation appeal witnesses that there wasn’t anything criminal in Lukashou’s case and even the case doesn’t exist as such’.
Lukashou’s lawyer Valiantsina Shykhantsova is satisfied with such decision. The case has been returned to Minsk Leninski borough court for re-consideration.
Kanstantsin Lukashou was detained on 19 December 2006, at his working place in the Institute of Chemistry. The detention was connected with the events of 29 March 2006, when he took away his brother Viachaslau Siuchyk from the surgical department of clinical hospital #3 of Minsk. That day the police (who earlier beat Siuchyk) tried to detain him again for ‘petty hooliganism’, but Lukashou managed to drive him away. Before the trial Mr. Lukashou was for a long time kept in an investigative isolator without being given any legal charges.
On 20 February he was found guilty under article 364 of the Criminal Code (violence towards a policeman on duty), for alleged knocking down a policeman. The court also ruled that Lukashou was to pay 1 million rubles to the ‘injured’ policeman Anatol Sushchenia.
