Homel: Democratic Activists Apply for Authorization of Antinuclear Picket

On 9 April Homel activists of the democratic forces submitted an application to the city executive committee for holding a picket on 26 April. As one of the picket initiators, member of the Party of Communists of Belarus Maryia Bahdanovich reported to BelaPAN the activists intend to protest against building of the Atomic Power Station in Belarus, to attract the public attention to the problems related to the disaster at the Chernobyl Atomic Power Station.
According to M. Bahdanovich the only place in the city where the authorities allow holding such actions is a site near Vipra palace of culture of the association of the deaf. The activists are going to hold the Chernobyl picket in this place. They suppose to receive the city executive committee’s answer no later than 5 days prior to the date of the action.
