Bernardine Monastery to Become Hotel Complex?

Belarusian republican scientific and methodical council on questions of historic and cultural heritage by Culture Ministry of Belarus at its visiting session in Hrodna region approved the pre-project proposal on reconstruction and adaptation of buildings of the former Bernardines monastery in Minsk, a 17th century monument of architecture. The buildings are situated at the territory of the upper town in Kiryla i Mefodziya Street.
According to the draft, the building of the former monastery is to be adapted for a hotel complex. It is a social and general-purpose building, and according to experts, its construction near the church would not disharmonize, Belta informs.
The authors of the project are experts of the enterprise ‘Minsk project restoration’. They suppose to use the underground space for a parking, a sports and business centres. The space in the yard would be preserved. Authors of the project renounced the initial idea to use glass in facade decoration, and the broken line of roofs which was not usual for earlier time.
The Belarusian republican scientific and methodical council offered to finish the research works and finish the project. Later the project would be offered for the council’s discussion.
