Chair of Savetski Court of Homel Rejects Activists’ Complaints
On 18 April the chair of Savetski court of Homel Aliaksandr Kostrykau rejected the complaints of the local activists Uladzimir Katsora and Uladzimir Shytsikau against the court ruling for their arrest. Mr. Kostrykau explained his refusal by saying that the legal term for appealing the court verdict was already over. According to the new administrative code such term is 5 days.
Katsora and Shytsikau were arrested on the eve of the Freedom Day (25 March) and sentenced to several days of jail for ‘hooliganism’. In their appeal to the chair of the court the activists explained that they had no possibility to pay the court fee for the appeal within the 5 days which they spent in jail. Besides, they had no possibility to receive legal aid. Nevertheless, the chair of the court rejected the complaints.
