Professor Astrouski’s Suit to Hrodna Medical University Turned down
According to RFE/RL
On 10 May the professor of Hrodna Medical University, member of BPF Adradzhenne Ales Astrouski tried to prove in court that the university administration discriminated him. Yesterday the court considered his suit for abolishment of the disciplinary penalty from the university rector Piatro Harelik.
On 22-23 March professor Astrouski participated in a scientific-practical conference held by TACIS mission in Belarus.
Two days before this he applied to rector Harelik for giving him two-day leave of absence at his own expense. As professor Astrouski notices, for other workers it has always been a mere formality. In the suit the professor enumerated a number of respects in which he is persecuted in the university. For instance, for more than 10 years he hasn’t been sent for extension courses and hasn’t been included in the board of examiners.
Judge Liudmila Zhukouskaya rejected Astrouski’s suit because he had violated the labor legislation by passing the request for the absence leave just 2, not 7 days before the day of departure. Professor Astrouski intends to appeal the judge’s ruling.
