Yury Aleinik Sues Academy of Management

On 16 May the 4-year student of the State Academy of Management was expelled for ‘truancy’. On 4 June he sued to Kastrychnitski court of Minsk against the groundless expulsion.

Human rights activist Aleh Hulak is going to defend Aleinik’s interests at the trial. ‘Iury really has missed some classes, which is really a violation of the internal regulations of the academy. However, we should bear in mind that together with him the administration expelled only students with much poorer progress and far larger number of classes missed,’ commented Hulak. He believes that even in the case the court justifies the actions of the academy administration, it will serve a good lesson both for students and the heads of the national high schools: ‘There are many such precedents, but only single cases reach courts, which makes those responsible for the expulsions feel quite relaxed’.
