A special paragraph has been devoted to Belarus in the report of the International Labor Conference. The BelaPAN agency has been informed about that by the International Labor Organization (ILO) representative, Chief of the Secretariat for the Commission of Inquiry Karen Curtis. This decision, she underlined, means that the situation with trade unions rights in Belarus is ‘one of the serious cases to which the ILO should pay serious attention’.

As said by K.Curtis, on 8 June, during the discussion of the situation of independent trade unions rights in Belarus at the session of the Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations, a group of employers and employees offered to put Belarus to a special paragraph of the ILO. ‘During the session the decision was approved and adopted’, K.Curtis said.

The ILO representative noted that Belarus is mentioned to the special paragraph for the 5th time. Belarusian government must do serious work to follow the ILO recommendations, Karen Curtis underlined.

As we have informed, a decision of the Council of the European Union to expel Belarus from the Generalized System of Preferences because of violations of trade unions and workers’ rights. The EU connects canceling of this decision with following recommendations of the ILO on amending violations of trade unions’ rights.

The International Labor Conference is a global forum hosted by the International Labor Organization. Member states are represented at the conference by four delegates: two government delegates, an employer delegate and a worker delegate.
