Judge Postpones Trial over Ales Dzeravianka
On Monday, Vitebsk district court heard the last case on the consequences of the picket in support of criminally prosecuted human rights activist Valery Shchukin.
Young Vitebsk resident Aleh Dzeravianka has already been fined 620,000 BYR (about 300 USD) for alleged disobedience to police. However, he was also charged with participation in an unauthorized action.
In the beginning of the trial Dzeravianka, referring to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, the decision of the Constitutional Court, and Resolution # 10, 2006, of the Plenary session of the Supreme Court, made a petition about participation of his representative in the trial. Judge Tatsiana Lipskaya rejected his petition, because the recently adopted Procedural Code does not have such a norm.
Then Aleh Dzeravianka made a petition to postpone the session, so that he would be able to make a complaint to the regional court. Tatsiana Lipskaya granted the request. However, she appointed the hearing for the next day. The regional court would hardly be able to hear the complaint in one day.
The hearing will continue on 11.30 a.m. on June 26th.
