Authorities Lose Shame on the Eve of State Sovereignty Declaration Day
The events of 24 July eloquently show the real attitude of the Belarusian authorities to the dialogue with the opposition. The recent ease of the regime has ended and now the repressions are getting even harder.
Yesterday Frunzenski court of Minsk sentenced to 15 days of jail the leader of Young Front Pavel Seviarynets and its activist Aliaksei Shein for distribution of leaflets with invitations to celebration of the State Sovereignty Declaration Day, 27 July.
Savetski court of Minsk sentenced to 10 days of jail Siarhei Kliuyeu, also for leaflets. On 23 July the court also fined Katsiaryna Sukhardzinava and Maryna Seraya about 420 and 290 US dollars respectively under article 17.1 (petty hooliganism) for posting stickers with invitations to take part in the festive actions.
Tsentralny court of Minsk sentenced to 10 days of jail Valiantsin Sakalouski for petty hooliganism. The police detained him in the evening and said that he looked like a wanted criminal. Then they composed on him a report for using four letter words.
Aliaksandr Charnyshou was sentenced to 15 days under the same charges. He studies at a Polish university on Kalinouski program for repressed students from Belarus.
The third-year student of Moscow Druzhby Narodov University Iury Volfsan came to Minsk together with his grandmother and was detained for posting stickers ‘Say NO to Lukashenka!’. For this he was sentenced to 7 days of jail.
