Hrodna: Prosecutor’s Office Struggles against ‘Discredit of Police’

On 29 August the journalist Ivan Roman was called to Leninski district prosecutor’s office of Hrodna. The prosecutor started investigating if Ivan Roman had been the author of the governmental body discrediting news story published at Radio Ratsyja website in July.

It was
a news story about the moving of Kastrychnitski district police department of Hrodna into a new building. In the publication it was written that the policemen left a number of curiosities in the former building, among those being documents on criminal cases and cut-off human fingers in the jar, the press service of the Belarusian Association of Journalists informs.

According to the deputy prosecutor of Leninsk
i district in Hrodna Aliaksandr Abramovich who interrogated the journalist, the order for the check-up was issued by the regional prosecutor’s office and signed by the deputy prosecutor of Hrodna region Yauhen Trutko. The order had been sent there by certain influential body. Ivan Roman was not allowed to familiarize with this document. Prosecutor Abramovich grounded the refusal by referring to the confidentiality of the investigation procedure.

 

No report was made on the talk with the journalist at the prosecutor’s office.
