Homel: Police Confirm Legality of Andrei Tsianiuta’s Detention
On 1 September the public activist from Homel Andrei Tsianiuta received an answer from Chyhunachny district police department of Homel. In his complaint to this body Tsianiuta pointed at his illegal detention by SOBR (special quick reaction unit) policemen.
Bear in mind that the activist was detained without appropriate reasons and grounds. The policemen searched him in absence of witnesses and confiscate private belongings, which were returned to him only four days later.
On 1 September the commandant of the SOBR regiment of the police department of Homel regional executive committee Siarhei Bialko informed the activist that during the check-up it was found that ‘workers of the special quick reaction unit implemented their duty in conformity with order #1 of the internal affairs minister V.Navumau On polite and attentive attitude to citizens. S.Bialko also pointed that the detention was conducted legally, which was witnessed by the documents which were attached to the check-up materials.
‘Frankly speaking, it would be naïve to think that the police authorities will stand for me as a citizen and find the activities of its workers illegal. I am sure that this is abnormal to detain people, take them to the police station for three hours and take away their belongings ignoring their complaints and not offering any explanations,’ commented Andrei Tsianiuta.
