UCP Activist Detained in Rechytsa
Earlier the police officers came to the house where the party activist lives and demanded to open the doors. As a result Leanid Nevar was detained and taken to a police station where he has spent 1.5 hours already.
As the Human Rights Center "Viasna" found out, Leanid Nevar had been charged with disorderly conduct. He was accused on the ground of the statement made by deputy chairman of the district executive committee: allegedly, the day before the pro-democratic activist behaved improperly and used foul language. The policeman on duty called Mrs. Nevar and asked to bring glasses and medicine. This means, it is very likely that the activist will be kept in detention.
Such actions of authorities are connected with the national harvesting festival Dazhynki which is going to take place in Rechytsa on September 21st-22nd. Most probably, police received an order to neutralize the opposition activists for that time. Three local activists of BPF Party, who work at state companies, have already been sent away on business trips. The rest are under strict control. We expect more detentions of pro-democratic activists before the festival.
