Stanislau Kavaleuski Detained
In the morning of 2 November in Mahiliou the police detained the youth activist Stanislau Kavaleuski. Kavaleuski and his friends were going to the university, when a police car approached them. The policemen told that the youngsters reminded of the robbers who had committed a crime half an hour ago. The students were taken to a police station. There the policemen searched their belongings and found in Kavaleuski’s bag leaflets with the heading ‘The authorities rob the students!’
Stanislau was detained at Leninski district police department of Mahiliou for three hours. The police composed a confiscation report and confiscated the leaflets. Then the activist was released. However, there is a possibility that a violation report can be drawn on him, as a result of which Stanislau can be fined.
Stanislau Kavaleuski is a second-year student of Mahiliou State University. He is the char of a unit of the independent trade union of radio engineering and the editor of a student newspaper ‘Bum’ – Bulletin of Universities of Mahiliou.
In May 2007 the council of the historical faculty raised the question of Stanislau’s expulsion for participation in an unauthorized mass action against the repeal of the social benefits. On 15 October Kavaleuski was sentenced to three days of jail for alleged petty hooliganism. He was detained on 12 October, on the eve of the European March.
