Polatsk: Court Fines Katsiaryna Salauyova
The Young Front activist from Polatsk Katsiaryna Salauyova was fined 1 050 000 rubles (about 488 US dollars) for having made political graffiti on the walls of Polatsk city executive committee two months ago. The trial was led by the judge Abramava, Salauyova was defended by the lawyer Aliaksandr Haliyeu.
‘The judge wanted to finish the trial as soon as possible’, comments Katsiaryna, ‘she ignored the fact that during the detention I was beaten, insulted. Those who detained me even tried to set my hair on fire. The police witness Afitserau quickly gave the necessary testimony and I was found guilty.’
Bear in mind that at present the activist of the Young Front Katsiaryna Salauyova is a suspect in a criminal case under article 193.1, ‘participation in an unregistered organization’. This article has been used against many Young Front activists. At present two of the organization leaders, Zmitser Dashkevich and Artur Finkevich, are the youngest political prisoners in Belarus.
Investigation is also conducted under article 370 of the Criminal Code – ‘outrage of state symbols’.
