Rechytsa Authorities Refuse to Register Trade Union again
Rechytsa authorities again refused to register a primary unit of the Belarusian trade union of radio-electronic industry. The formal reason is that the landlord decided to revoke his letter of guarantee for giving a legal address to the organization.
The trade union filed the documents for registration of its organization on 18 December 2007. The trade union lawyers have a large experience in preparation of the registration documents and did their best at it. However, on 4 February Rechytsa town executive committee refused to register the local organization of the trade union.
The terms for answering the application for registration were violated – according to the laws an answer was to have been given within a month. In this case the trade union received almost two months after the application was filed and was not informed about the reasons for the delay. Which is most, interesting, the formal reason to refuse registration appeared just on the eve of the sitting of the executive committee, on 28 January. That day the landlord informed the executive committee (not the trade union, as it is normally done) that he revoked the letter of guarantee, thus leaving the organization without a legal address.
The trade union learned that the rented office remains empty. That’s why the trade union leaders are of the opinion that the landlord revoked the letter of guarantee because of the pressure from the side of the authorities.
