Press Release

Over 2.400 people have already joined an online photo petition calling for the release of prisoners of conscience in Belarus. The action of Amnesty International started in May 2007 and focused on the situation of Zmitser Dashkevich and Alexander Kazulin. Amnesty International

welcomes the release of Zmitser Dashkevich on 23 January 2008 and urges the Belarusian authorities to release Alexander Kazulin immediately and unconditionally as well. Former presidential candidate, Alexander Kazulin, was sentenced in July 2006 to five and a half years in prison.

On 25 March 2008, Alexander Kazulin will have been detained for 2 years. Amnesty International will collect as many photos as possible until that sad anniversary, and calls upon everyone to join the “faces for amnesty” petition.

Please support Amnesty International in sending out a signal of support and solidarity with Alexander Kazulin. Raise your voice against human rights violations in Belarus!

Send you pictures (max 2 MB each) to faces@belarus-actions.org Please show the slogan “Freedom to Alexander Kazulin” on your photo. (You can download a special sample on http://www.belarus-actions.org in Russian, English and German language)
