Zmitser Kaspiarovich detained in Minsk

On March 15, Zmitser Kaspiarovich, member of the Belarusian committee for the protection of prisoners’ rights Over the Barrier, was detained by Minsk police. According to Kaspiarovich’s friend Tsimafei Dranchuk, the activist’s car was stopped by road police.

‘He was stopped by 3 road police cars. It should be observed that apart from road policemen there were two arrest witnesses in the cars’ – said Dranchuk.

During a search in Kaspiarovich’s car the police found several stickers with an appeal to support the initiative European Belarus and the Young Front Czech office. ‘It is not strange at all – Over the Barrier committee supports the European choice for Belarus, protection of the citizens’ rights and freedoms, including the rights of prisoners’ – said Dranchuk.

According to him, Kaspiarovich was taken Minsk Savetski police department; the stickers were confiscated. ‘He is likely to be charged with distributing unauthorized printed materials’ – says Dranchuk.
