Shklou: Alexander Fiodarau sentenced to 5 years of jail
On 1 April the judge of Shklou district court Alexander Tarakanau read a sentence on the criminal case against Alexander Fiodarau, boilermaker of the local municipal service.
He was sentenced to 5 years of medium security prison for allegedly ‘official misconduct and appropriation of state property’.
The property of the condemned will be forfeited. He must return 15 342 600 rubles to the state. Moreover, Fiodarau is forbidden to take executive posts for 5 years, RFE/RL reports.
It’s possible to appeal against the sentence in superior court during 10 days.
Alexander Fiodarau is a head of Shklou structure of the Belarusian Popular Front party, an active participant of electoral campaigns. In 2001 he was arrested during the presidential campaign on an order of district prosecutor, but was released later.
In his last statement Alexander Fiodarau said he had been unlawfully kept in custody for 9 months.
‘I have a family, children, elderly mother, I am their only support’, Alexander Fiodarau emphasized in his speech.
