Minsk: court turns down complaint of beaten driver
13 May the judge of Minsk city court Siarhei Khrypach turned down the cassation complaint of the citizen of Russian Sergey Ostrovsky against a verdict of Tsentralny district court of Minsk.
According to Ostrovsky, 13 April the Belarusian road police allegedly extorted money from him and beat him. Then they accused him of ‘dirty swearing’. The Russian citizen says that at the trial he had to take the blame and pay 350 000 rubles (about 164 US dollars) fine, as otherwise he was threatened with imprisonment.
‘Judge Khrypach turned down the petition, because earlier Ostrovsky had taken the blame,’ said the lawyer Vera Stramkouskaya. According to her, at present Tsentralny district prosecutor’s office of Minsk considers a complex complaint filed by Ostrovky. He asks to reverse the court verdict and the ruling of the road police to fine him and also to give the legal evaluation to the actions of the road police,’ said Vera Stramkouskaya.
