Campaign on financial persecution of oppositionists and human rights activists continues
After Lukashenka’s statements that oppositionists lived better than all others without working anywhere the tax agencies started persecuting well known human rights activists and oppositionists.
At present tax inspections and officers of the department of financial investigations demand that the leader of the Party of Communists Belarusian Siarhei Kaliakin, the head of the Belarusian Popular Front Party Vintsuk Viachorka and the human rights activists Zmitser Bandarenka and Siarzhuk Rusetski present income declarations for the last year. All activists have received writs to the district department of financial investigations of the State Control Committee.
On 14 July the human rights activist Valiantsin Stefanovich paid a visit to the department of financial investigation of Minsk and Minsk oblast. Though he, his wife and father have already presented to the tax inspection their income declarations for 2007, Stefanovich had to give written explanations.
From his talk with the department officers the human rights activist found that there was a special list of persons, from whom the income declarations will be requested and the check-ups on the received information will be conducted.
