Asipovichy: Artsiom Dubski gets arrested

Artsiom Dubski, one of the Young Front leaders, was arrested in Asipovichy and guarded to the police department handcuffed.

Artsiom managed to phone to the Young Front deputy head Arthur Finkevich and tell the police were guarding him to the police department. The policemen told Artsiom he had been detained on suspicion of committing a crime according to Article 216 of the Criminal Code.

Article 216 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, ‘Damaging property without theft’ provides fine and imprisonment up to 3 years.

According to Artsiom, he doesn’t understand what he is accused of. The policemen didn’t explain why they suspected him, but said he would be kept in temporary detection facility for three days, after that he would be transferred to a pretrial detention center. Bear in mind that Artsiom is serving his punishment on the case of 14 – two years of restraint of liberty without sending to open penal institutions.

As it has become known, a computer has been seized from a pastor of a protestant church Ernest Sabila, who lives in Asipovichy and knows Artsiom Dubski well.

The Young Front says ungrounded detentions of Young Front activists during the election campaign and during the boycott campaign demonstrate the panic fear of the regime.

‘We have already passed through repressions, intimidations, prisons, so they won’t stop us by these methods. Boycott-2008 campaign is gathering pace every day, and we will tie up the loose ends in any case!’ the Young Front deputy head Arthur Finkevich said.
