Minsk: it is prohibited to hang paintings on the walls at BPF central office

On 8 August representatives of the fire security service of Savetski district of Minsk visited the central office of the Belarusian Popular Front Party. They held a check-up there and made several remarks to the secretaries of the office.

‘We were told that in every room there should be a fire extinguisher, all bookcases must have doors with glasses and all walls must be covered with acrylic paint. The electric wiring must be replaced. We also must not hang any paintings on the wall because in the case of fire people allegedly can catch on them and fall down,’ said one of the secretaries.

The exhibitions of oppositional artists are often held at the BPF office. One of them To the founders of the Belarusian People’s Republic, was opened just before 7 August. It includes more than thirty work of Uladzimir Stalmashonak, Mikola Kupava, Ales Marachkin and other well-known painters.

Bear in mind that this week the BPF Party also received the requirement of the communal services to remove the national white-red-white flag from the façade of the office. Otherwise the rent agreement with the BPF Party would be broken.
