On 4 September in Hrodna an activist of the European Belarus civil campaign Yakau Perchyk was detained for distributing of the Vybor newspaper. The newspaper was dedicated to boycott of the oncoming parliamentary election.
A report on Article 17.1 of the Administrative Code (hooliganism) was drawn up against the activist for distributing the newspaper. Traditionally the police use this article to press the opposition, in particular to hide the political motives of arrests of democratic activists. Yakau Perchyk was released some hours after the detention. The activist is likely to have a trial soon.
