The well-known activist and former political prisoner Mikalai Statkeivich intended to participate in the parliamentary elections, but was not let to do it. The official reason is that his conviction has not been cancelled yet.
Mikalai Statkevich states that the Constitution does not prohibit being elected for the people who had no-cancelled convictions and such prohibition could only be found in the Electoral Code. However, a judge of the Supreme Court Yukhnavets evaded from considering the legal collision and rejected Statkevich’s suit.
