Candidates burn their IDs

Parliamentary candidates of the “European Coalition” burnt their IDs of candidates near the building of the Central Election Commission in protest of rigging of the “parliamentary election“ results.

Activists of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Narodnaya Hramada) Vasil Vavrenyuk and Viktar Kantsavenka burnt their IDs. Vasil Vavreniuk ran for parliament in Belavezhski district #8 (Brest region), Viktar Kantsavenka ran in Buda-Kashaliou district #38 (Homel region).

The democrats have decided on this step in protest of active using of administrative resource during the “election”, forcing to early voting and refusal of the authorities to allow independent observers to control the votes counting.

“This “election” is carried out under strict control of the power vertical. The civil society can’t control this process. I travelled around my constituency. I am convinced, all officials were told: if a pro-governmental candidate did not win, they would be dismissed. A great number of violations are noticed at the early voting. Workers of collective farms are taken to polling station on buses, they don’t know who they vote for, they vote for a candidate they are told to vote for,” Vasil Vavreniuk told the Charter’97 press center.

“About 40 per cent of the voters have voted early in my constituency. Nobody controls this process. I want to demonstrate my attitude towards this “election” to people, so that they are not surprised later at forged figures, the officials will write,” Viktar Kantsavenka told the Charter’97 press center.

After Viktar Kantsavenka has withdrawn, the “election” in Buda-Kashaliou district #38 is uncontested.
