Pressurization of activists of Belarusian Christian Democracy Party in Haradzets

Activists of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party in the Mahilou region are pressurized by  the local authorities, who are making them leave the party.

As the Charter’97 press center has learnt from Valeryia Charnamortsava, member of the National Council of the BCD, activists of the party in Klichau and Shklou district asked to strike the out of the list of BCD founders.

‘Four persons asked to strike them out of the list, because they are being prosecuted. ‘You know, we need to live,’ they said on the phone. What is interesting is that founders of the party are being pressed at Lukashenka’s homeland – on Haradzets collective farm, where he worked as a chairman,’ Valeria Charnamortsava said.

Bear in mind that on 28 February, the organizing committee on creation of the Belarusian Christian Democracy held a founding congress.

Before the congress, BCD activists received threats of dismissals, draft into the army and responsibility for the 4 July blast in Minsk. Heorhi Stankevich from Beshankovichy (Vitsebsk oblast), BCD coordinator in Maladzechna Dzoanis Layeuski and BCD coordinator in Slutsk Viktar Dvurechanski received threats.

The delegate from Homel Kanstantsin Zhukouski couldn’t come to the congress, because he was serving arrest for participation in the rally, dedicated to the Day of native language on 21 February.

Some delegates were detained by the police on their way for a congress in Minsk. In spite of obstacles, the congress of the party was held.

After the congress, on 2 March, delegates from Svetlahorsk Vadzim Bely and Aliaksei Zhasana were threatened with dismissals for their participation in the congress.

Relatives of BCD co-chairman Heorhi Dzmitruk also faced pressure. His wife and mother-in-law were summoned to the Financial Investigation Department.
