Officials in regions pressing on BCD activists
Local officials in regions continue pressing upon participants of the foundation congress of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party (BCD)held in Minsk a month ago.
About 25 people, faced threats to be fired for membership in the party, have appealed to the party administration, Radio Racyja reports.
Dzyanis Khabirau from Polatsk has already been fired. BCD activists Kazimir Varonka and Tatsyana Klimentsyeva from Myory are under threat of dismissal. Ideological officers from the Shklou region executive committee put pressure on 7 Christian democrats from Haradzets collective farm, ruled by Lukashenka some time ago. Three members of the BCD in Zaslauye have faced the same problems. People in Minsk, Mahilou, and Klichau are threatened with firing, too.
The co-head of the party Paval Sevyarynets thinks this probably happens on the initiative of local officials.
“This is outrageous, this violates the law. People are being threatened with dismissals for their lawful intention to create a political party – this is lawlessness. We record every fact,” the politician notes.
Paval Sevyarynets emphasised that all fact of pressure upon the BCD members will be introduced to international political and human rights institutions.
