Police arrest opposition activist Alesia Yasiuk

Officers of the Partyzanski district police department detained the activist of the civil campaign European Belarus from Barysau Alesia Yasiuk for spreading stickers.

Alesia Yasiuk was pasting posters of the civil campaign European Belarus. The woman came to the capital from Barysau to ‘celebrate’ the official holiday – the day of ‘unity’ of the peoples of Russia and Belarus, RFE/RL reports. The woman was seized her personal things in the Partyzanski district police department and said she would undergo personal search.

Alesya Yasyuk has been repeatedly detained by the police for spreading leaflets and independent newspapers. In July 2008, ahead of the parliamentary elections, police officers and people in civvies burst into her apartment. Yasiuk was handcuffed and told she might be brought to responsibility for disobedience to the police. The activist supposed the policemen were looking for stickers Boycott in her apartment.
