Show trial of army evaders conducted at state lyceum

Recently the students of the Belarusian State University have been shown what they could face if they evaded from the army. On 2 April officers of Maskouski district prosecutor’s office and Maskouski district court tried a number of army evaders at the lyceum of the Belarusian State University.

All the students who did not have classes at the time were obliged to attend the trial. The second-year student of BSU Yahor came to the trial on his own, as it was interesting to him.

‘The defendants Alexander Bahatka and Uladzislau Sakalouski looked like students of the third or the fourth year’. After expulsion from the university they ignored the writs and therefore were tried for evasion from the army services. However, at the trial they repented and therefore would be sentenced to a fine only. Alexander Ulasevich was tried as a malignant evader (in 10 months he will turn 27) and was sentenced to five months of administrative arrest.

During the break the students asked questions to the prosecutor. One of them asked why the prosecutor and the judge were sitting side by side. The answer was that it was quite difficult to organize the proper conditions in the lyceum building.

Before the trial Dzianis Ivanenka, the head of the drafting department of Maskouski district military enlistment office, told the youngsters about the military duty and the measures that can be used against violators. The organizers of the show trial hope that this measure will increase the level of the military-patriotic upbringing and will help to decrease the number of the persons who evade from the army service.
