Oppositionist Leanid Autukhou is not employed because of his political views

The head of a district organization of the BPF Party Leanid Autukhou has already spent more than a year trying to get employed with the aid of the social employment center in Haradok.

Leanid Autukhou is an electrician-mechanic by profession. Since December 2008 he has been trying to get employed by the institutions and enterprises that need electricians, writes the web-site haradok.belarda.org.

From time to time the enterprises and organizations of Haradok supply the employment center with information about vacancies. They also confirm the existence of the vacancies before Leanid Autukhou comes to them. However, during the time he spends on getting to an enterprise (10-15) the vacancy suddenly disappears.

For instance, in December 208 it happened at the local poultry factory, and in February 2009 – at the enterprise that specializes in disarmament of ammunition. The activist says that a similar thing happened in April, when he came to the district hospital. In the morning there was a vacancy, but when the head doctor found that Leanid Autukhou had been dismissed from job for political reasons, the vacancy ‘disappeared’.  

Mr. Autukhou says that the local authorities ‘agree to liberalization’, but continue persecuting democratic activists for their political views.

Bear in mind that in 2008 Leanid Autukhou was dismissed from job because of participation in the ‘parliamentary elections’ as a candidate of the BPF Party at Vitsebsk village constituency #21.
