The trial over the Young Front activist Pavel Kuryianovich took place in the court of Pershamaiski district of Minsk.

The court found the young man guilty of violation of the order of holding mass events and punished him by a fine of 350 000 rubles (about $126), RFE/RL informs.

The activist explained that he distributed leaflets consciously, as he views that as his right to take part in peaceful rallies.

On May 12 Minsk coordinator of the Young Front Paval Kuryanovich and the activist Viktoryia Ladzis were detained in Minsk during dissemination of leaflets with information about For Independence! march, which is to take place on May 14 at 6 p.m. in Kastrychnitskaya Square.

Viktoryja Ladzis was released in three hours as a minor, and an administrative report was drawn up against Pavel Kuryanovich under Article 23.24 ‘violation of the rules of organizing and holding mass events’. The young activist was kept in the police department the whole night. He refused to eat in the police department, and told that if the court would sentence him to an arrest, he would join the hunger strike of solidarity with the political prisoners held by public and political activists of Belarus since 4 May.

On 13 May in the court of Pershamaiski district of Minsk an administrative trial in the case of the oppositionist started. Judge Leanid Yarmolenka prohibited journalists to make pictures and audio recoding, and then postponed the proceedings in the case to 14 May. The young man was released till continuation of the trial.
