Prosecutor general refuses to meet with ‘Women against Lawlessness in Courts’

The prosecutor general Ryhor Vasilevich refused to meet with activists of the civil initiative Women against Lawlessness in Courts.

On 11 June more than 20 activists addressed the office of the prosecutor general with a collective complaint against actions of the Belarusian courts and asked for a personal audience with Ryhor Vasilevich.

‘It was a reception day and we came there. We waited for several hours, but Mr. Vasilevich had no wish to meet with us, though it is our constitutional right to complain and get our complaints checked up. It seems that Ryhor Vasilevich, former chairman of the Constitutional Court, does not share this opinion,’ stated the activist Halina Yubko to RFE/RL. She added that the initiative is going to address the UN, the EU and the OSCE with the statement that ‘it is impossible to get the justice in the Belarusian courts’.

Bear in mind that the activists have spent several years already trying to get the criminal cases against their relatives reviewed. However, instead of giving real answers, the prosecutor’s office just sends come-offs.

The office of the prosecutor general informed that the complaint of the women was accepted for consideration by the office of the reception department Siarhei Yavorski.
