Vitsebsk opposition activist Aleh Surhan was tortured at the police department for a white-red-white flag.

Three national whit-red-white flags were hung out in Vitsebsk on 3 September: on Kirau Bridge, on Freedom Square and near the medical university. Opposition activist Aleh Surhan was detained at a bus stop in front of the university by the police.

As Siarhei Kavalenka, a friend of the detained said, Surhan told him police officers had asked him to show documents and then guarded him to Kastrychnitski district police department and beat him.

According to Kavalenka, policemen handcuffed Aleh Surhan and suspended him from the bars, beat his head against a toilet bowl, spit at him.

According to Siarhei Kavalenka, Surhan has traces of beating at his face. The activists managed to call an ambulance. Aleh Surhan was taken to hospital #3 of Vitsebsk.
