Hunger-striker Bandarenka placed to prison hospital

The businessman Andrei Bandarenka started his hunger-strike on 19 October. He protests against the verdict issued by the Pershamaiski district court of Minsk.

As RFE/RL reminds, the businessman Andrei Bandarenka, former activist of the United Civil Party, was found guilty of stealing property of the firm and sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment and confiscation of property. As said by his lawyer Zmitser Layeuski, the state of health of his client has considerably deteriorated. Bandarenka has been placed to the hospital.

Andrei Bandarenka, a businessman, took part in the election to the Chamber of Representatives last year. The UCP activists tried to challenge the results of the elections, and his acquaintances among the authorities warned him about possible bad consequences. Bandarenka didn’t give up his attempts to defend his position. After a while a criminal case was brought up against him, and in early October the businessman was convicted.
