Criminal case for spilling paint on monument to Lenin
On 7 November, the Day of October Revolution, which is still a state holiday in Belarus, Lenin monument in Navahradak was smeared with green paint.
The Young Front activists Daryia Bakhur and Yury Kazak were detained then as suspects in commitment of this action. Green paint and gloves were found in their bags.
The young people were kept in the district police department for three hours. Reports on administrative violation were drawn up against them.
However in the next days the young people were summoned for interrogations. Today Yury Kazak has been told at the police department of Navahradak that a criminal case had been initiated against him under Article 339 part 1 of the Criminal Code, ‘malignant hooliganism’.
As charter97.org website was informed by the activist, he is not incarcerated still. He hasn’t been asked to provide a written undertaking not to leave the place. If the court recognizes Kazak’s guilt, he can face a fine, arrest for up to 6 months, or imprisonment for up to 3 years.
