Organizing committee of Belarusian Party of Workers sues Ministry of Justice

On 12 November the organizing committee of the Belarusian Party of Workers filed to the Supreme Court a complaint against the registration denial to the Ministry of Justice.

‘We are of the opinion that the Ministry has taken a decision that contradicts to the law’, stated to the BelaPAN the leader of the organizing committee Aliaksandr Bukhvostau. ‘We intend to prove at the trial that we have all the documents necessary for registration of the party: about holding of the assemblies of initiative groups, the sufficient number of founders, etc.’

The information about the registration denial was published on the official website of the Ministry of Justice on 20 October. The official reasons for the registration denial are the insufficient number of founders, numerous violations during the nomination of delegates to the constituent assembly and wrong information in the list of the founders.

The constituent assembly of the Belarusian Party of Workers was held on 26 July in Minsk. The party was established on the basis of Belarusian Labor Party that had been liquidated in 2004 by court on the initiative of the Ministry of Justice. At that time the Ministry of Justice accused the party of systematic violations of the Civil Code, the law On Political Parties and its own charter. Mr. Bukhvostau is of the opinion that the Belarusian Labor Party, like many others organizations was liquidated on the political order of the authorities.
