Mahiliou: human rights activist Aliaksei Kolchyn refused information
On 16 March Aliaksei Kolchyn, human rights activist and observer representing Mahiliou Human Rights Center at Mahiliou City Election Commission, was refused information on the candidates, who had applied for running in the election.
‘The secretary of the Commission Ludmila Shamiha named the overall number of applicants – 116 persons. However, she refused to provide any detailed information on the candidates,’ said Mr. Kolchyn.
Apart from that, the human rights activist claims that he was refused access to the record of the City Election Commission meeting.
He says that the principle of the transparency of elections is being violated, as well as the right of citizens to receive information on the progress of the elections. The activist is going to appeal the refusal at Mahiliou Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
