Mahiliou court turns down claim by BPF ‘Adradzhenne’ members

Mahiliou Kastrychnitski Court dismissed the complaint lodged by the Belarusian Popular Front ‘Adradzhenne’ local office against the district authorities’ failure to provide timely information on the time and place of the executive committee’s meeting for the formation of electoral commissions. The party activists argue that they faced political discrimination.

‘On the first day of the trial the court established violations of the formation of constituency commission number 100, after two representatives of the Belarusian Peace Foundation were elected members of the commissions, which is prohibited by the law,’ says local human rights activist Barys Bukhel.

‘Today a record of meeting was presented, featuring only one activist of the Foundation on the commission, the other representing the BRSM youth organization. I.e. a technical fault occurred and Mahiliou Kastrychnitski executive committee is going to publish updated information on the composition of the commission in the local state-owned newspaper,’ says Mr. Bukhel.

The activists say they are going to appeal the decision.
