A street action dated to the 11th anniversary of the abduction of Yury Zakharanka, a former Interior Minister and opposition politician, was held by members of the United Civil Party at 3 p.m. on 7 May.
Seven participants of the action including the UCP Chairperson, Anatol Liabedzka, laid flowers on the place where Mr. Zakharanka had been abducted. Then all of them were detained by the police and guarded to the Kastrychnitski District Court of Minsk where they were sentenced to fines ranging from 350,000 to 875,000 rubles ($118-296).
Bear in mind that Yury Zakharanka, a former Interior Minister and a member of the United Civil Party, was abducted not far from his house on 7 May 1999 and has been missing without trace ever since.
