Detention of defenders of children’s facilitations

On 1 June, the International Children’s Day, representatives of the initiative group for returning the children’s facilitations were detained by police in the Gorky Park in the center of Minsk.

The activists were handing out leaflets with information about the facilitations of which the Belarusian children were deprived. At present Volha Astsiomchyk, Ihar Komlik and Mikalai Pakhabau are kept at the Partyzanski District Police Department of Minsk.

According to Mr. Pakhabau, the initiative group applied to the Minsk City Executive Committee to receive permission for their picket, but received a refusal. ‘We were ready for the action, that’s why we decided to hold it in the park. We put our telephone numbers on the leaflets and called the concerned people to join us,’ said Mikalai Pakhabau.
