Vaukavysk: disabled UCP activist can go on hunger-strike of protest
A UCP activist from Vaukavysk, Vital Huliak, was unable to receive his disability pension, because his bank card had been seized by the police.
’Policemen took away my card, so I cannot get pension now. I have nothing to live on, but the police don’t say when I get back the card and my belongings seized after the search. I am ready for decisive measures – if I don’t receive back at least the card, I’ll go to Minsk to investigator’s office and announce a hunger strike in protest. What else can I do?’ the oppositionist told in an interview to RFE/RL.
Vital Huliak is a member of the United Civil Party. On 18 May, policemen came to search his apartment in connection with the criminal case against activists of the civil campaign Tell the Truth! Huliak said he didn’t belong to the campaign and had no relation to its activity, but policemen seized his computer, information storage devices, documents and a bank card he used to receive his pension.
