Slonim: BPF activists charged with crossing the street in the wrong place

On 13 June, two activists of the Belarusian Popular Front Party, Aliaksandr Harasiuk and Pavel Sevastsyan, were detained by a road policeman while going to the city park by pavement. He demanded that they got into his car for drawing a report about a violation of the traffic rules.

According to Mr. Harasiuk, the policeman behaved quite boldly. He didn’t introduce himself, raised his voice. Naturally, the fellows were indignant at his accusations, as far as they hadn't crossed the street at all.

They started arguing with the policeman, and he called another police car, by which they were driven to the police station, where the report was composed.

Aliaksandr Harasiuk says that taxi drivers who had allegedly stood nearby and witnessed the violation gave testimonies as witnesses. On 19 June, the activists were issued with writs to court (this very day BPF members gather in Slonim to commemorate Valovich and other participants of the anti-Bolshevik uprising who had perished in the Slonim area).

Moreover, according to Mr. Harasiuk, he was detained out in the street the following day after his return from Berlin, where he was a member of the delegation of young Belarusian politician. As said by him, cameraman of the Belarusian TV vigilantly shot their delegation at the airport on return to Belarus.
