The Belarusian General Prosecutor’s Office has made a representation concerning detention conditions in the country’s penal colonies and pre-trial facilities, the Nasha Niva independent newspaper reports, quoting Prosecutor General Ryhor Vasilevich. According to the prosecuting authorities, detention conditions often run counter to the established standards, both sanitary and medical ones. ‘Violence should be eliminated in detention, both physical and psychological one,’ says Mr. Vasilevich.
